UM Track Hosts Miami Gatorade Classic

Coral Gables, FL (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami will host the Miami Gatorade Track and Field Classic on Saturday, April 12, at Cobb Stadium for Soccer, Track and Field, in Coral Gables, Fla.
Field events will begin at noon with running events starting at 5:15 p.m. Tickets for the event are $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. UM students will receive free admission with their CaneCard.
Nine schools will be competing including host Miami, Bethune-Cookman, Kansas State, South Florida, Maryland, Florida International, Connecticut (women only), Florida Memorial and Florida Atlantic.
The 25th-ranked Hurricane women have two individuals and two relays ranked by Trackwire including two-time All-American Lauryn Williams (Rochester, PA) who is fifth in the 100-meters, and freshman All-American Charlette Greggs (Miami Northwestern) who ranks 12th in the 400-meters.
UM’s 4×100-meter relay of freshman Dominique Darden (Harrisburg, PA), Greggs, senior Sharianne Lawson (Palm Beach Lakes) and Williams, ranks sixth in the nation, while the 4×400-meter relay of senior Sashanie Simpson (Miami, FL), Greggs, senior Jamillah Wade (Philadelphia, PA) and junior Kitoya Carter (Miami Northwestern) ranks fifth.
The UM men are led by several BIG EAST qualifiers including senior Kenneth Frank (Pomona, NY) in the 110-hurdles, senior Dan Boniface (Seattle, WA) in the 3000-meter steeplechase, junior Aaron Bass (Hillsborg, OR) in the pole vault, junior Jon Mark (St. Charles, IL) in the pole vault and junior Russell Landy (Miami James Bryant) in the decathlon.
Expected to compete for the first time this outdoor season are several UM sprinters including freshman Terrell Walden (Miami Edison), the BIG EAST Indoor 60-meter champion, sophomore Travarous Bain (Miami Northwestern), sophomore Tanard Davis (Miami Southridge), sophomore Kelly Jennings (Live Oak, FL), sophomore Roscoe Parrish (Miami Senior) and junior Sean Taylor (Miami Gulliver Prep).
In addition, junior Vince Wilfork (Boynton Beach, FL) is schedule to compete in the shot put. Wilfork is the school indoor record holder in the event.
The Miami Gatorade Classic will be the final home meet of the season. Miami’s seniors will be honored in a ceremony prior to the running events at 5:15 p.m.
