MIAMI LAKES, FL – University of Miami junior Camilla Hilland (Lommedalen, Norway) fired a one-under-par 71 on Saturday and moved into a tie for fifth heading into Sunday’s final round of the Ryder Florida Women’s Collegiate Golf Championships in Miami Lakes, FL.
Hilland, the defending champion, moved up nine spots and finds herself just four-strokes out of first-place with a two round total of 149 (78-71). She is attempting to become just the third player, and the first since Florida’s Riko Higashio in 1996 and 1997 to win back-to-back state titles.
Florida State’s Kristin Tamulis, last year’s runner-up to Hilland, also posted a second-round 71 and leads the tournament with a two-round total of 145 (74-71). A trio of FSU players are tied for second with Caroline Larsson (74-74-148), Carrie Sordel (76-72-148) and Alison Curdt (74-74-148) all three-strokes back.
Florida State, last year’s team champion, is primed to win its second consecutive state championship after posting a 291. The Seminoles’ two-round total of 589 is 32 strokes better than second-place South Florida (317-304-621). Rollins College is third (312-311-623) while the host Hurricanes are fourth (319-306-625).
Final round action will begin at 8 a.m. on Sunday.
