AUBURN, Ala. (www.hurricanesports.com) – – University of Miami diver Katie Beth Bryant (Chatham, Ill.) placed fifth in the three-meter event at the NCAA Championships Friday night at Auburn University in Alabama.

Bryant recouped from a sub-par performance during Thursday’s one-meter competition for the outstanding showing in which she scored a 520.80.

“Katie had been very steady all day and she had some great dives,” coach Randy Ableman said. “It was her best performance all year and she picked a great time to have it. She’s a senior and that’s a great way to go out.”

Bryant said that she was glad to make finals, but felt that she could have had performed better.

Swimmers Elaine Schwartz (Mt. Laurel, NJ) and Manon Van Rooijen (Westdorpe, Holland) also competed.

Schwartz, who holds the University of Miami record in the 400-yard IM event, swam in the same and finished with a time of 4.28.34.

Van Rooijen, who holds the BIG EAST Championship record in the 200-yard freestyle, finished 16th overall in the 200 free with a time of 1.50.62.

Tomorrow is the final day of competition for the Hurricanes. Van Rooijen will compete in the 100 freestyle event.
