No. 22 Women's Tennis Shuts Out No. 75 Boston College

CORAL GABLES, Fla.-The No. 22-ranked Miami women’s tennis team earns its second shutout of the season with a 7-0 victory over visiting No. 75 Boston College Wednesday night at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

The Hurricanes improve to 7-2 on the season winning their third consecutive match.

The Eagles fall to an even 6-6 overall.

The Hurricanes came out strong winning the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.

Megan Bradley (Columbia, Mo.) paired with Mari Toro (Miami, Fla.) at the No. 2 spot where the duo downed Ali Ashley and Szilvia Szegedi 8-4.

At No. 3 doubles Melissa Applebaum (Coral Gables, Fla.) teamed up with Sara Robbins (Tuscon, Ariz.) to beat Morgan Landes and Emily Yeomans 8-3.

The Hurricanes continued to dominate the Eagles winning four straight set singles matches.

No. 77 Applebaum put the Hurricanes up 2-0 in the match as she downed Allison Ashley 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. The freshman improves to 8-1 on the season.

No. 94 Toro beat Landes 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 3 spot as Miami went up 3-0 on the Eagles.

No. 87 Bradley clinched the match for Miami with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Nida Waseem at No. 1 singles.

Staci Stevens (Hammond, La.) also won in straight sets with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Emily Hellberg at No. 5 singles.

Sihem Bennacer (Algiers, Algeria) and Robbins allowed Miami the shutout over BC with three set victories at No. 4 and No. 6 singles.

Miami improves to 10-0 all-time against the Eagles.

The Hurricanes are back in action Friday hosting No. 39 Virginia at Noon.
