CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – – The No. 42-ranked University of Miami men’s tennis team defeated North Carolina State 6-1 Friday night at the Neil Schiff Tennis Complex.

With the win, the Hurricanes improved their dual match record to 2-0 on the season.Shauny Hoyes (Miami, Fla.) clinched the match for UM when he defeated Jirou Nakajima 7-6, 6-4 playing at six singles.

Building on the momentum of winning the doubles point, UM’s No. 9 ranked player Todd Widom (Coral Springs, Fla.) took the first win of the night when he defeated RJ Murray 6-1, 6-0 in straight sets.Eric Hechtman (Miami, Fla.) followed with a swift 6-1, 6-0 win over Rehman Esmail.UM lost its first singles match of the night when freshman Colin Purcell (Louisville, Ky.), a newcomer to the No. 3 spot, fell to Val Banada 6-4, 6-2.
