No. 24 Women's Tennis Beats No. 75 FAU, 6-1

CORAL GABLES, Fla.-The No. 24-ranked Miami women’s tennis team cruised to a 6-1 victory over No. 75 Florida Atlantic Friday night at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

Miami extends its home-winning streak to 12 while improving to 2-0 on the season.

The Owls drop to 2-2 on the season. UM leads the all-time series 19-0.

Miami swept the doubles point with wins at all three spots.Melissa Applebaum and Megan Bradley teamed up at No. 1 doubles to beat Alena Dvorakova and Karolina Roubickova 8-6.

Mari Toro and Staci Stevens downed Tania Rivera and Maria Aguirre-Gomez 8-2 at the No. 2 spot while Igna deVilliers and Abby Smith defeated Stephanie Beaulieu and Jessica Burrow 8-6 at No. 3 doubles.

In singles action the Hurricanes were victorious at No. 2 though No. 6.

Four of the five wins were in straight sets.

Toro handled Rivera at No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-0.

At No. 3 singles Applebaum’s match was decided in a tiebreaker, which she won 10-1. She fell to Roubickova 7-6 (3) in the first set before rallying to take the second set 7-5.

Stevens beat Aguirre-Gomez 7-6 (3), 7-5 at the No. 4 spot.

Ewelina Skaza and Sihem Bennacer picked up wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.

Miami is back in action Feb. 8 travelling to face No. 43 Baylor in Waco, Texas.
