Monica F. Bonadies: Palm Beach Gardens, FL: Hi Willis~I am attending UM next year so I had some friends over for a little Fiesta bowl party. We were all worried about you when the Ohio player hit you. I wore a black scarf around my knee today for you and I wrote “Miami: Still #1!” on the back window of my car. I wish you the very best in your recovery!!

GO CANES!!!!!XOXOMonica

I would like to send my wishes for aspeedy recovery for Willis McGahee.I’m a Buckeye fan that was sitting inthe top row of Sun Devil Stadium. Ididn’t really see the injury occur, butfrom the number of players kneeling andpraying I knew it was serious. I wasvery happy to hear that Willis had theintelligence to take out an insurancepolicy in case this is a career-endinginjury. I’m glad that surgery wassuccessful, and I hope to see himrunning amok in the Big East next year.

Sincerely,

Joel

Please forward this e-mail to WillisMcGahee.

Hi Willis, I am a 33 year old Syracusealumnus so you know I typically hateMiami…because you always beat us infootball… : )

But what I am writing to you today goesbeyond football. I was really enjoyingthe Fiesta Bowl until I saw yourinjury. I didn’t know it was that baduntil I saw the replay. Once I saw itI said to myself Oh my God!

Immediately my prayers and thoughtswere with you, not just for a speedyrecovery but the Lord to ease yourpain. I have never been injured likethat so I cannot imagine how it was foryou.

But I was happy to hear severalthings…1.) the injury wasn’t as badas originally thought 2.) the operationwas a success 3.) if for some reasonyou are unable to play the insurancecontract that you took out will kick in.

So in closing…I just want you knowthat you have me in your corner prayingfor you for a total recovery…I wouldlove to see you healthy and playing forthe NY Jets one day.

But most importantly I am praying forthis time to be a time of you gettingcloser to the Lord. I don’t know whatyour faith is but I am a Christian andI know that the most important thing isyour eternal security and that is whatJesus Christ has given me!

Hope you have a speedy recovery!

Peace and Godbless…T. Sharpe

Willis:

My name is Josh Lorenz, a graduate and former student-athlete (track) who attended VT. You don’t know me from Adam, but I wanted to drop you a line to let you know that my thoughts and prayers are with you. I travelled to the VT-Miami game and although I was disappointed my Hokies came up short, I was thoroughly impressed with your efforts that day. I was equally impressed with your peformance in the national championship up until your unfortunate injury.

Please understand that your abilities are a wonderful gift from God which football fans from all schools truly appreciate. Your present circumstances will only serve to strengthen your resolve and show you just how special your gifts are. Know that you are in my prayers and that others who have gone through this have come through it better than ever (see VT’s own Lee Suggs). I am rooting for you and look forward to seeing you on the football field again.

And remember, “God works all things for the good of those who love Him and work towards His purposes.”

Yours in Christ,

Josh Lorenz

: Michael Ochs W: Girard, Ohio: Get well Willis. Even though I am a huge Gator fan, no player should have to go through this. Certainly not one as great as you. Get better and i look forward to seeing you on the field in 2003!

The Buckeyes we damn lucky you weren’t there to finish them off. Better times are just around the corner. God Bless you. GO CANES!

Bryan G. Whitehouse: Bellevue, WA: Willis – I have been a big fan of Miami football for over 20 years. Some of my favorite players include Bernie Kosar, Michael Irvin, Darrin Smith and Andre Johnson. After reading your story in ESPN magazine earlier this year, combined with your brilliant play on the field, you became one of my favorite Canes of all-time. I was saddened to see the injury Friday night. However, with your work ethic, patience and athletic ability you will be back on the field. Thank you for a tremendous season and get well soon. Bryan Whitehouse, Bellevue WA

Vance Exner: Lisle, IL: Willis,What a year, we have seen your grow from the back up full back who started in the Rose Bowl last year to Heisman candidate. We will never forget the Florida game where they were supposed to end the Canes streak and you showed the world the talent you had. Or the Florida State game where your 66 yard screen pass set up a go ahead touchdown. How about the Tennessee game, where they could barely touch you? You were 11 minutes away from being a millinoare, but that kind of stuff happens…you need to look at this as a challenge. Larry will still be there to coach and guide you but you need to take it upon yourself to get back to he NFL. Knee injuries are the toughest…but the harder the work they greater the reward. Please focus in on the task, get that knee back to normal, get the speed back to normal and take your talent to the NFL, we believe in you Willis.

Alexander and Beatriz Lopez: Miami, FL: Willis,

In tough times, we must all face challenges that at first seem impossible to overcome. But trust in the Lord and He will give you the strength to endure. Although we may never meet in person, God knows you and will continue to Bless You and help you through these tough times.

Think of it as another stepping stone in your career, Don’t let it be a set back, but an event that will motivate you to come back stronger, quicker, and with your eyes focused more than ever on the prize.

God will never place an obstacle in front of you that you cannot overcome.

May God continue to bless you and your family. We will continue to pray for your recovery.

Sincerely From Two Former Canes —

Alex ’98/00 and Betty 00.

Shanequa Smith, hollywood,fl: I nearly died when I saw him tackle you and to see the pain on your face caused tears to flow constantly from my eyes. You are amazing and I know you will have a sucessful NFL career. You are very very very very astonishing.Let me futher explain you pull trucks, work hard in the weight room, even when there’s no possible way to score, you do, you have great strenght and stamina, you’re the hardest working, strongest guy on the team period,In 20 DAYS you learned to full back postion, you’re are very humble, and you have me on your side who can go wrong?wink, wink. All in all, you’re the best there is and ever will be,bet.

David L. Boyd: Middleport , Ohio: From here in Southern Ohio my family and myself wish you a speedy recovery. Most people in your position would be saying why did this happen to me and I probably would have at one time in my life. Well you have probably also been told by people that things happen for a reason and I truly believe that they do. I just want to tell you to stay stong because the good Lord wouldn’t put this on you if he didn’t know that you could handle it. I am a big Buckeye fan but the game didn’t mean as much after you went down with your injury. The best of luck to you and I hope to see you playing for the Canes once again and we would really love to have you in Cleveland in a couple of years.

Chris Arias: Miami, FL.: Willis, I just wanted to wish you a quick recovery from your injury. You mean alot to not only to the football team, but to UM as a whole. So many underclassmen, including myself, look up to not only what you do on the field, but the way you carry yourself on campus. I hope you recover quickly and completely. Though your plans for the NFL might have been put on hold, you’ve already done so much for UM. You are hero and heroes always come back. Get well soon, Chris

Eric Koch: Coral Gables, FL: First of all, as a die hard canes fan and a student at UM, thank you for everything you did for the team this season. Not only did you follow in the footsteps of Clinton Portis, but you passed him. Secondly, thank you for giving all of us one of the greatest games that any fan has ever been priveledged to see. I know that how great the game was probably hasn’t sank in yet, but i’m sure you’ll appreciate it down the road. Most importantly, i want to wish you a speedy and timely recovery. Things happen for a reason, and as unfortunate as the injury was, i pray that you can work hard and turn it in to a positive. Get well soon and i’ll see you next January in the Sugar Bowl. GO CANES!!

Joe Hoon: Wilmington, DE: My prayers are with you for a healthy and speedy recovery. After the game I was more concerned with your health than the outcome of the game (even though Miami really won 24-17). Knowing you work ethic I know we will see you on the field soon.

Anthony Mossburg: new matamoras, ohio: Hey, I watched the game and im really sorry about what happened…i hope you get better and u are one of the best running backs i have ever seen play the game,i play but im a QB,im #2 also…i hate to see any athlete go down like that,no matter how good…but i really hope you get better and are able to play again, good luck in all you do

Anthony Mossburg

Leslie Steven Semrau: Gainesville, FL: McTouchdowns, First off you’re the man. I know this injury is only a pit stop on your road to the NFL and that everything will be all good. Get well soon, keep working hard and you’ll be dominating teams sooner than you think…Good Luck with everything…

GO CANES

Nicholas Pinazzo: Clarkston, Michigan: Willie,

It’s important to take the good with the bad. What happened on Friday night was upsetting for me to see as a college and NFL football fan. But keep your head up, and show the people out there what your really made of. Come back with a vengeance and run like you have something to prove, it will all work out in the end. Best of luck in your recovery and I look forward to seeing you dawn an NFL uniform (Miami will work for now).
