Back To The Diamond

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – – The familiar ping of hardballs off of aluminum bats could finally be heard echoing from the confines of Mark Light Stadium today as the University of Miami baseball team took to the field for its inaugural practice.
“Right now we have two-a-days and that’s a great advantage for us over just about everybody in the country because we have good weather,” coach Jim Morris said. “We’re going over fundamentals and trying to do different things. Today we worked on bunting really, both bunt defense and bunt offense. We got our swings in and we got a few other things in fundamentally. It was a good day and a long day. Our pitchers got to throw. It’s really just like spring training right now and its chance for us to get ready for the season.”
The Hurricanes’ alumni game is set for Saturday, Feb. 1.
The first regular season game will be Wednesday, Feb. 5 when UM hosts Florida International.
Miami baseball will continue with two-a-days throughout the week. The first practice runs from 9 a.m. to noon and the second runs from 1:30 to 4:15 p.m.
