Here are your 1983 Memories
Nov. 18, 2002
Coral Gables, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) — – Here are your memories of the 1983 National Championship:
From Bruce S. Rubin, Miami, Fl: As a second generation U-M alum, I started going to games in the OB with my Father when I was 4. And we went to every single home game together since 1951.
Finally, after all those years, we saw the Hurricanes beat Nebraska in the Orange Bowl, and become National Champion for the first time. It was, indeed, a thrill we always cherished. The Hurricanes provided a special, wonderous moment in the lives of my Father and myself, and we always talked about, and remembered it, and it was one of the things that made us close.
Thank you, Hurricanes.
From Carlos A. Del Valle, Tavernier, Fla Keys: On the eve of November 12, 1983, just as Miami and FSU were about to get underway, my wife Susan broke her waterbag, needless to say we were on our way to a Homestead hospital.
To make this story short as the labor was difficult and there just happened to have a televison inside the delivery room; Just as Jeff Davis was about to kick the winning fieldgoal, landing the Canes in the Orange Bowl game vs Nebraska: The nurse said here she comes, Elizabeth, my golden cane girl who is now a freshman at UM.

!Go Canes!
From Slade Miller, Southside, Alabama : I was only 7 years old but was already a Hurricane fan and I remember it like it was yesterday.
I thought that Nebraska was unstoppable team and I thought their running back Mike Rozier was superman.
I will never forget the 2 point conversion at the end. Turner Gill rolled right and threw the ball. Ken Calhoun stuck his hand out and knocked the ball away. I almost couldn’t believe that we had beaten Nebraska. I will never forget that 2 point conversion at the end.
From Nick Rose, Miami, Florida: As superstitious as I am, I was watching the game in my room when UM was on D, and in the family room when the Canes were on offense. I sat on the bed in my room watching and praying as they barely got the spike down. When Beitia kicked it I quietly said “Oh my god!”. But as I saw it start to sail left and as I watched the refs call it, I threw my door open pushing through all the family, screaming “OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD, HE MISSED IT!!!!”.This truly was the best game I’ve ever seen.
From Erick Valdez, Miami: My favorite 1983 memory was when i attended the WVU- MIAMI BALL GAME…WOW WHAT A GAME…..MIAMI WON THE BALL GAME AND HELD WVU TO 2 YARDS ON 29 CARRIES FOR THE WHOLE GAME AND SACKED JEFF HOSTETLER 5 TIMES…
