Track and Field Signs Seward

CORAL GABLES, FL (hurricanesports.com) – Head women’s track and fieldcoach Amy Deem announces the signing of Amy Seward (Virginia Beach, VA/SalemHigh School) to a national letter of intent to attend the University ofMiami next fall. Seward selected Miami over Virginia Tech, Syracuse,Wisconsin and Cal State Northridge.

“Amy (Seward) is extremely talented and we expect her to continuethe University’s tradition of quality jumpers,” said Deem. “Her versatilitywill add depth next season in the high jump, long jump and triple jump.”

Seward, who ranked third in the nation in the triple jump lastseason, led Salem to a second-place finish at the Virginia Group AAA StateIndoor Championships, winning both the long jump and triple jump for thesecond consecutive season. She also finished fourth in the high jump and ranthe second leg of the runner-up 4×200-meter relay, accounting for 33 of theteam’s 46 points.

At the 2002 Virginia Group AAA State Outdoor Championships, she ledSalem to a third-place finish running the second leg of the state champion4x100-meter relay, taking second in the long jump and finishing third in thetriple jump despite competing with 19 stitches in her right foot.

“I felt very comfortable when I came on my visit,” said Seward. “Igot along well with the team and coaches, and was very impressed with thecampus.”

As a sophomore she won the long jump and triple jump at both theindoor and outdoor State Championship meets.

An All-State selection as a freshman, sophomore and junior, Sewardhas recorded career bests of 12.03 in the 100-meters, 24.84 in the200-meters, 5-08.00 in the high jump, 19-7.50 in the long jump and 40-01.50in the triple jump.
