CORAL GABLES, Fla.-Sophomore Todd Widom (Coral Springs, Fla.) advances to the round of 32 at the Omni Hotels Region III Championships in Lexington, Ky.
Widom seeded No. 3 in the main draw of the tournament received a bye in the first round and beat Catalin Bradu of Central Florida 6-3, 6-4 in the round of 64.
Widom will face Lee Taylor Walker of Memphis Saturday morning.
Three other Hurricanes earned wins in the first round of play before falling in the round of 64. Senior Andrew Golub (Miami, Fla.) beat Will Chappell of Tennessee Tech 6-3, 6-4, before falling to Nicolas Boeker of Georgia in the second round.
Colin Purcell (Louisville, Ky.) beat Nadim Naser of South Florida 6-4, 7-6 (3). Purcell fell in the second round to Janne Holmia of Florida 6-1, 6-1.
Eric Hechtman (Miami, Fla.) downed Elliott Datlow 6-4, 6-3 before falling to Gernot Fischer of Tennessee Tech 6-1, 6-3.
Tim Krebs (Eschborn, Germany) fell in three sets to Matias Ormaza of Georgia Southern 6-3, 3-6, 6-7 (2).
