Coral Gables, FL (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami women’s swimming and diving team won 13 of 16 events to defeat Florida Atlantic, 187-110, in a dual meet at the Norman Whitten Student Union Pool in Coral Gables, FL.
Miami improves to 1-1 in dual meet competition this season.
Sophomore Katalin Ferenczi (Papa, Hungary), freshman Adrien Ferguson (Oklahoma City, OK), and senior Christine Williams (Trenton, NJ) each won three events to lead the Hurricanes.
Ferenczi posted individual victories in the 100-yard backstroke (58.05) and 200-yard backstroke (2:03.09), Ferguson won the 200-yard butterfly (2:06.70) and 200-yard individual medley (2:08.30), and Williams finished first in the 50-yard freestyle (23.88) and 100-yard freestyle (51.52).
The three also combined with junior Christina Swanson (Bainbridge Island, VA) to win the 200-yard medley relay (1:48.18).
All-Americans Manon van Rooijen (Westdorpe, Holland) and Katie Beth Bryant (Chatham, IL) also registered two individual victories each. Bryant led the UM divers to sweeps of the top three positions in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions, while van Rooijen won both the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.42) and 100-yard butterfly (59.02).
Other Hurricane winners included senior Megan Clabby (Coral Springs, FL) who finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.89) and senior Elaine Schwartz (Mt. Laurel, NJ) who won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:24.64).
On the men’s side, sophomore diver Miguel Velazquez (Mexico City, Mexico) won both the 1-meter and 3-meter competitions. FAU defeated the UM men 226-36.
The Hurricanes return to action on November 8 when they travel to Knoxville, TN to take on the Tennessee Volunteers.
