Cross Country Hosts FIU, Florida Memorial

Coral Gables, FL (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami men’s and women’s cross country teams will take on cross-town rival FIU and Florida Memorial this Saturday, October 19 in a tri-meet on the University’s Coral Gables campus.
The men’s 8,000-meter race will begin at 7:45 a.m. with the women’s 5,000-meter competition following at 8:20 a.m. Admission is free.
The Hurricane men are ranked eighth in the South Region by the National Cross Country Coaches Association and have been led this season by senior Dan Boniface (Seattle, WA) and junior Matt Mulvaney (South Hadley, MA).
Boniface opened the season with a bang recording his first career victory in the season opener at the UCF Invitational, while Mulvaney has been the Hurricanes’ top finisher in the last two meets including a 10th-place finish at the Gator Invitational on October 5.
The UM women have been led this season by senior Melissa Norris (Pembroke Pines, FL/Flanagan) and sophomore Marilyn Ruiz (Ft. Lauderdale, FL/St. Thomas Aquinas).
Norris was the Hurricanes’ top finisher at the Gator Invitational on October 5 and placed 19th overall in the season opener at the UCF Invitational. Ruiz was Miami’s top finisher at the UCF Invitational finishing 11th and also scored for the Hurricanes at the Gator Invitational, placing 64th overall.
