Hurricane Club Members Get A Sneak Peek At The New Convocation Center
Oct. 4, 2002
On Saturday, September 28th 176 Hurricane Club members and their family and friends came to a special Convocation Center event which included a barbeque and tours of the Convocation Center. The Convocation Center will open January 4, 2003 when the University of Miami will play the University of North Carolina Tarheels in men’s basketball. The Hurricane Athletic Staff wanted to introduce our Hurricane Club donors to the Convocation Center and give our loyal supporters a sneak peek at the new home for Hurricane Basketball. The event began at 4pm and lasted until 7pm. Donors and their family were shuttled to/from the Hall of Fame and Convo Center where David Touhey, General Manager of the Convo Center (works for Global Spectrum Management), Patrick McGrew, Director of Facilities for the Convocation Center (also works for Global Spectrum) and Nick Longone of Turner Construction ran the tours. The tour included the coaches offices, locker rooms, training room, the floor where the court will be, and the concourse level where they saw the concession stands, merchandise stands and restrooms. Many were amazed by how small and intimate the 7,000 seat building was. The last row is roughly only 94 feet from the court! This was also a great opportunity for many people to purchase their tickets to the Convocation Center.
The new marketing campaign is on the website, www.hurricanesports.com, as well as a seat diagram where interested fans can see which seats are still available.
