Andrews Wins Three Gold Medals At World Championships

Lille, France (hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami sophomore Dan Andrews (Holiday, Fla.) solidified his status as the world’s top parathlete sprinter last week winning three gold medals and setting two world records at the IPC Athletics World Championships in Lille, France.
Andrews, who runs with a prosthetic left leg, won gold medals in the 400-meters, 800-meters and 4×100-meter relay.
Andrews, the gold medal winner in the 800-meters at the 2000 Paralympic Games in Sydney, Australia, broke his own world record in the 800-meters posting a winning time of 2:07.18. He dominated the field finishing more than one second ahead of his nearest competitor, fellow American Andrew Lester (2:08.59).
In the 400-meters Andrews upset world record holder Neil Fuller (Australia) for the gold medal. Andrews, the American record holder in the event, recorded a championship record time of 53.20, finishing one tenth of a second ahead of Fuller (53.30).
Andrews picked up his third gold medal running the second leg of the World Champion 4×100-meter relay. The Americans shattered the world record registering a time of 43.71. The old mark of 44.64 set by Australia in 1998 had stood for nearly four years.
