CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami sprinter Lauryn Williams (Rochester, PA) won a silver medal Sunday evening by running the lead leg of the United States’ 4×100-meter relay team at the 2002 IAAF World Junior Track and Field Championships in Kingston, Jamaica.

Williams, who won a gold medal on Tuesday in the 100-meter dash, was the first runner of the U.S. team that finished second in 43.66 seconds, just .26 behind the Jamaican team that took the gold. Joining Williams on the medal stand were teammates Ashlee Williams, Amy Spencer and Vernicha James. The relay ended Williams’ competition at the championships.

Williams, the 2002 BIG EAST Champion in the 100, qualified for the United States Junior National team with a victory in the 100 meters at the USATF Junior National Championships held earlier this summer in Palo Alto, Calif.
