Marcela Gamarra is July's Academic All-Star

Junior Marcela Gamarra, a vital member of the volleyball team, was selected the June 2002 Academic All-Star for leading the hurricanes both on and off the court.

Gamarra, who has accumulated a high grade point average in her architecture major, has also been named to the Provost’s List, Dean’s List, AD Honor Roll, and Book Busters. Along with all these academic accomplishments came many athletic accomplishments in her first year on Miami’s volleyball team.

As an outside hitter, she holds the season’s highest number of attacks (804) and kills (375), as well as the second-highest total of serving aces (38). She holds the third highest amount of digs (205) and digs per game (2.44), showing that she is a leader in both offense and defense.
