Amber Williams Sets School Record In The Heptathlon

SACRAMENTO, CA (hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami freshmanAmber Williams (Succasunna, NJ) broke the school-record in the heptathlonfor the third time this season, and also qualified for the finals of the100-meter hurdles at the United States Track and Field Junior NationalChampionships being held in Sacramento, CA.
Williams, who finished fifth in the competition, recordedpersonal-bests in the shot put (10.63 meters), javelin (31.70 meters) and800-meters (2:29.09) en route to a school-record total of 5007 points.Williams, who broke her own record of 4,951 points set at the 2002 BIG EASTChampionships, becomes the first Hurricane in school-history to surpass 5000points in the heptathlon.
Williams also qualified for Saturday’s final of the open 100-meterhurdles finishing eighth with a time of 14.26. Also competing on Saturdaywill be Miami freshman Lauryn Williams (Rochester, PA) in the semifinals ofthe 100-meters.
