Since Jim Morris’ arrival at Miami in 1994, the Hurricanes have gone 7-2 against Georgia Tech, including 2-1 in Atlanta. Morris had previously served for 12 seasons (1982-93) as Head Coach of the Yellow Jackets, compiling a 504-244-1 overall record becoming the school’s all-time coaching leader. He is also a member of the Georgia Tech Athletics Hall of Fame class of 1999.

This weekend also marks the graduation of three Hurricanes, Luke DeBold (systems analysis), Troy Roberson (liberal arts) and Vince Vazquez (finance), who will be walking Friday morning.

THE MIAMI/GEORGIA TECH SERIES; ALL-TIME — Miami holds a 30-12-2 all-time record in the 44 games played against Georgia Tech since the first meeting in 1958. The Georgia Tech series is the third oldest on the Hurricanes 2002 schedule behind Florida (1940) and Florida State (1955).

Within the 30-12-2 mark vs. the Yellow Jackets, the Hurricanes are 10-8 at Atlanta, 19-4-2 at Coral Gables and 1-2 at neutral sites.

Additionally, UM leads Georgia Tech 7-1 in the eight three-game series played. Miami has won all four three-game series at Mark Light Stadium and have gone 3-1 in Atlanta. The lone three-set drop was in 1967.

THE MIAMI/GEORGIA TECH SERIES; UNDER JIM MORRIS — Prior to his nine years at Miami, Jim Morris was the head coach at Georgia Tech for 12 seasons (1982-93) compiling a 504-244-1 record becoming the school’s all-time coaching leader.

During Morris’ tenure, the Yellow Jackets became one of the ACC’s premiere programs claiming four tournament championships and two regular season titles. Georgia Tech also advanced to the NCAA tournament in his final nine seasons (1985-93). Morris was also named ACC Coach of the Year, three times, in 1983, 1987 and 1993 and was inducted to the Georgia Tech Athletics Hall of Fame in 1999.

Morris holds a 7-2 record in the nine games played against Georgia Tech since he took over as head coach of the Hurricanes in 1994. In his first return to Atlanta, Miami won two of three games in 1998. Additionally, UM is 5-1 against Georgia Tech in Coral Gables.
