CORAL GABLES, Fla.–The No. 3-seeded University of Miami men’s tennis team fell 4-1 to top-seeded Notre Dame in the BIG EAST Championship match Sunday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
No. 43-ranked Miami, the defending BIG EAST Champions, fall to 12-9 on the season while No. 10-ranked Notre Dame improves to 21-6 overall.
The Fighting Irish jumped out early taking the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
Freshman Todd Widom defeated Javier Taborga, 6-2, 7-5, at No. 1 singles, but Notre Dame proved too much for the Hurricanes taking wins at No. 2, No. 5 and No. 6 singles for the win.
Widom was named Most Outstanding Performer of the tournament.
Miami has won seven BIG EAST Championship titles in the last 10 years.
