DURHAM, N.C. – Sixteenth-ranked Duke swept both the singles and doublesplay en route to defeating 38th-ranked Miami (Fla.), 7-0, in collegiatemen’s tennis action on Sunday afternoon at the Sheffield Tennis Centerin Durham, N.C.
The Blue Devils improve to 9-9 on the year while the Hurricanes fall to8-7.
Duke picked up the doubles point by sweeping all three matches. TheBlue Devils went ahead 3-0 on singles wins by Joel Spicher at numberfour and Michael Yani at number two, and clinched the team victory onJason Zimmerman’s straight set win over Andrew Golub at the number threeposition.
After Yorke Allen and Peter Shults won at the numbers five and sixslots, 14th-ranked Phillip King outlasted 12th-ranked Todd Widom inthree sets, 6-7, 6-4, 6-1.
Miami returns home to face No. 28 South Florida Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
