Wade, Whittaker Provisionally Qualify For NCAA Championships

Gainesville, FL (hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami juniors Jamillah Wade (Philadelphia, PA) and Saraque Whittaker (Ft. Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas) both recorded NCAA provisional qualifying marks Friday at the Florida Relays in Gainesville, FL.
Wade provisionally qualified in the 400-meter hurdles finishing fourth with a time of 58.97, while Whittaker posted a provisional qualifying mark in the 400-meter dash taking fifth with a time of 53.55. Both Wade and Whittaker qualified for the NCAA Championships in their respective events last season.
This season’s NCAA Outdoor Championships will take place May 29-June 1 in Baton Rouge, LA.
Whittaker later joined freshman Wiande Moore (Spring, TX), freshman Lauryn Williams (Rochester, PA) and junior Patricia Pearson (Jacksonville, FL) in the Sprint Medley relay which finished second with a time of 3:48.55. The relay nearly broke the UM record of 3:48.23 set in 2001.
Other top Miami performances included junior Sharianne Lawson (Palm Beach Lakes) who finished sixth in the 100-meter hurdles (13.79), senior Wyllesheia Myrick (Miami Northwestern) who took sixth in the 200-meters (23.94) and junior Megan Cobb (Ypsilanti, MI) who finished 10th in the javelin with a personal-best throw of 39.18 meters (128-06.00).
