No. 38 Men's Tennis Knocks Off No. 29 Middle Tennessee, 4-3

CORAL GABLES, Fla.-Senior Tarik El Bassiouni clinched the, 4-3, win as the No. 38 Miami men’s tennis team earned the upset victory over No. 29 Middle Tennessee State University Monday night at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

El Bassiouni clinched the second match in two days for the Hurricanes (7-5) and improves to 6-1 on the season. He beat Trevor Short, 7-6, 7-5, at the No. 6 spot.

MTSU falls to 13-3 on the season.

Miami jumped out early winning two-of-three doubles matches to enter singles play up 1-0.

Andrew Golub and Andrew McDade teamed up to beat No. 14 Oliver Foreman and Robert Gustafsson, 8-2, at No. 1 doubles.

Tomas Smid and Todd Widom clinched the doubles point with a, 9-8 (2), win over Michael Staniak and Short at No. 2 doubles.

Golub fell at No. 3 singles to Foreman, 6-2, 6-0, tying the match one-all.

No. 12-ranked Widom put the Hurricanes back on top, beating No. 85 Gustafsson, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 1 singles.

Joel Berman fell to Staniak at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 7-5, just as Lieberman won his match on court No. 5, 6-1, 7-5, over Keith Jackson to keep Miami on top 3-2.

Smid fell to No. 17 Daniel Klemetz, 6-3, 6-4, at the No. 2 spot, knotting the match three-all.

All eyes switched to court No. 6 where El Bassiouni beat Short to clinch the win for Miami.

The Hurricanes are back in action Thursday night hosting Colorado at 6 p.m.
