Van Rooijen Secures 6th Place in 100 Free

Austin, Texas (hurricanesports.com) – Manon van Rooijen swam the 100-yardfreestyle in 49.23 seconds to secure sixth placeon the final day of the 2002 Women’s NCAA Swimming & Diving Championshipsin Austin, Texas.
The time was just over her school record of 49.11 set at the BIG EAST Championshipslast month. Maritza Correia of Georgia set a new NCAA record in the event witha 47.56 to take first place.
The Miami relay team of Christine Williams (Trenton, N.J.), Erin Johns (Saltsburg,Pa.), Megan Kinsella (Calgary, Canada) and van Rooijen (Westdorpe, Holland) finished16th in the 400-yard freestyle relay at 3:25.19.
The UM women finished in 15th place out of 45 teams with 76 points. Other BIGEAST teams included Notre Dame in 19th place (52 points), Rutgers in 29th (15)and Villanova in 33rd (11).
The 2002 Men’s NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships are scheduled for March28-30 at the Gabrielsen Natatorium on the campus of the University of Georgiain Athens.
