Seven UM Divers Qualify for NCAA Championships

Lexington, Ky. (hurricanesports.com) – Seven University of Miami divers willcompete in the 2002 NCAA Championships after posting qualifying scores at theZone B Championship Meet in Lexington, Kentucky this weekend.
Senior Michelle Davison (Columbia, S.C.), junior Katie Beth Bryant (Chatham, Ill.)and sophomore Melanie Rinaldi (MteNord, Canada) qualified for the UM women.
On the men’s side, senior Stefan Ahrens (Lichtenhagen-Dorf, Germany), senior ImreLengyel (Budapest, Hungary), junior Kyle Prandi (Strongsville, Ohio) and freshmanMiguel Velazquez (Mexico City, Mexico) qualified.
Katie Beth Bryant won the women’s 3-meter competition on Sunday with a 527.70score over 35 competitors. Davison was second (521.60) and Rinaldi was 10th (482.55).
Imre Lengyel finished second in the men’s 1-meter event with a score of 327.35.Teammates Prandi (3rd – 322.35), Ahrens (4th – 315.65) and Velazquez (13th – 272.90)completed an impressive showing for the Hurricanes.
The 2002 Women’s NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships are scheduled for March21-23 at the University of Texas. The men’s championship is scheduled for March28-30 and will be held at the University of Georgia.
