Spring Football Practice Continues In The Rain

March 6, 2002

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – A wet field and a consistent misting rain did little to deter the University of Miami Hurricanes as they continued spring football practice Wednesday afternoon at the Greentree Practice Field on the University of Miami campus.

The Hurricanes will not practice Thursday but will continue Spring Practice with another workout on Friday slated to begin at 3:30 p.m. at Greentree before breaking camp for Spring Break. All Spring Practices are open to the public until further notice.

“It was slippery out there, so it made it difficult to do some things but I was pleased with the intensity of the workout,” said head coach Larry Coker.

Miami’s defensive backs are a focal point of the workouts as the Hurricanes are seeking replacements for four starters, plus a key reserve in that area. But defensive backs coach Mark Stoops has been pleased with the unit’s work to this point.

“This group is different from last year’s group in experience, but it doesn’t lack for talent and I’ve been impressed with what I’ve seen to this point,” Stoops said after Wednesday’s practice. “They’ve all approached practice with the attitude that it’s their group now and their time to prove themselves. They’ve all worked hard and I’ve been particularly impressed with Sean Taylor at safety. But all the guys are really working hard to get better and I’m excited about what they’re doing.”

Wednesday’s practice was the third of 15 practices that will conclude with the annual CanesFest 2002 Spring Game at the Orange Bowl on the morning of Saturday, April 6.
