Williams Sets School-Record In 60-Meters

Chapel Hill, NC (hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami freshman Lauryn Williams (Rochester, PA) won the 60-meters with a school-record time of 7.35 to highlight the first day of competition at the Tarheel Elite Invitational in Chapel Hill, NC.

Williams, who established a school-record in winning the 55-meters last weekend at the Florida Intercollegiate, is ranked No. 1 in the nation in the 60-meters. Her winning time is the fastest in the nation this year and provisionally qualifies her for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, March 8-9, in Fayetteville, AR.

Also reaching the 60-meter final was junior Gina Harris (Philadelphia, PA). Harris recorded a personal best time of 7.65 in finishing seventh. Harris also competed in the long jump where she finished third with a leap of 5.97 meters (19-07.00).

The only other Hurricane competing on Friday night was junior Melissa Norris (Pembroke Pines – Flanagan) who finished seventh in the 5000-meters with a time of 18:38.04.

Competition continues on Saturday starting at 11:00 a.m.
