Williams Breaks School Record in 55-Meter Dash

Gainesville, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – The Miami men’s and women’strack teams competed at the Florida Intercollegiates Meet at the University ofFlorida in Gainesville on Saturday. The event featured athletes from UM, Florida,Florida State, UCF, South Florida, Bethune-Cookman, FIU, Florida A&M, NorthFlorida and Jacksonville.
Lauryn Williams won the women’s 55-meter dash and broke the school record withan NCAA provisional qualifying time of 6.87.
Wyllesheia Myrick (Miramar, Fla.) finished second in the 200-meter dash with anNCAA provisional qualifying time of 24.20 with Williams in fourth (24.44).
Kareen Clarke (Lithonic, Ga.) won the triple jump event with an NCAA provisionalqualifying distance of 12.99m. Gina Harris (Philadelphia, Pa.) finished fourthwith a jump of 11.95m. Clarke also took second in the long jump with an NCAA provisionalqualifying distance of 6.06m behind Florida’s Cameal Rhule (6.18m).
For the Miami men’s team, Gus Martin (Miami, Fla.) took second in the 55-meterhurdles with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 7.38 behind Florida’s JoshuaWalker (7.33).
Aaron Moser (Bonne Terre, Mo.) captured second in the pole vault competition witha personal-best height of 16’7″ and fourth in the 55-meter hurdles (7.49).
The Miami women return to competition at the North Carolina Invitational at ChapelHill, N.C. on January 18th-19th. The men’s team next competes in the North CarolinaInvitational on January 25th-26th.
