Congratulations Undefeated National Champions!
Jan. 5, 2002
From Kelly Coffman, Carter Lakem, Iowa to Entire Team:
Twas The Night Before Rose Bowl
Twas the night before Rose Bowl and in every room
Husker Players and Coaches were fearing their doom.
They came to show the nation, in this game they belong
But gail forces were blowing, Hurricane winds came along.
The Huskers were confident, even cocky you might say
About to learn that this just wasn’t their day.
Their passes intercepted, their runs a big bust
The Canes were in town with a vengeance and lust.
They stopped every play, every trick came up short
It was painfully evident a Hurricane was in port.
The Canes scored and they scored and they scored even more
leaving the Huskers beaten, tired and sore.
They ran up the middle, they ran down each side
for the weary Huskers, there would be no place to hide.
Crouch’s option was stopped, and he suffered sack after sack
The Canes were rolling and there would be no looking back.
They scored on offense, defense, special teams and more
by second quarter the game was fast becoming a real bore.
It looked like a high school team playing the NFL
I’m sure the Huskers thought they’d just landed in hell.
Then with a whimper, their heads hung in shame
They limped off the field, should they even finish this game?
The second half showed promise, but all was in vain
On their Championship parade, it was starting to rain.
Off the field the Huskers trodded, defeated and in shame
The question finally answered, they didn’t belong in this game.
For the impending fallout, they started to brace
As they heard Miami exclaim, Now Stay Out Of Our Face!
And they heard as the Canes partied into the night,
“We’re National Champions, Huskers You Bite”

Joe Hardy, Ali Al Salem AFB to Jonathan Vilma: Man I’ve been watching Miami play for over 14 years and the hit you put on Nebraska’s tight end wins hands down. That was the sweetest hit I have ever seen!! You guys steamrolling nebraska made getting up at 4:00 in the morning in Kuwait all worthwhile. It’s great to see my Canes dominating again. Congrats to everybody. GO CANES!!!!

Michael, Lincoln Native to Miami Coaches: Congrats on your win and undeniable national championship. Of course, I would have liked to have seen otherwise, but you left no questions unanswered. I especially want to thank and congratulate Miami coaches and players for doing their talking on the field with their play. Like Jim Rome said, it was good to see their character as a demonstration of class as well as their play, and not the Hurrigangsters of years past. This year, the Hurricanes did it right, and the way it should be done. Enjoy it – we’ll be back.

Julio Andino, Miami to Coach Coker Coach:
As just one, simple ‘Canes fan I would personally like to congratulate you and your staff on winning your 1st of many championships.
I must admit I was not too sure how you or your staff would handle “these young men”, especially in situations when “pay back / revenge” where mentioned. But you all handled it (FSU, Washington & VT) with dignity, respect and most of all resolve.
I guess I still have a little bit of the “old ‘Canes” in me, but thanks to you and your style I am starting to mellow out a bit.
Again, many thanks to you and your staffand especially to your parents for your upbringing – it clearly is indicative of your style.
God Bless,
J. Andino

And I stuck with you through the hard times, and defend youagainst wrongful accusations. I would like to congratulate the truegentleman-student-athletes that make up the University of Miami footballteam on their national championship season. It is a joy to listen or watchthem play every game. Since I live in Israel, I usually listen to the WQAMbroadcast via the Internet, and I still get all excited, even at 3 am in themorning, with school or work the next day. I have read Jimmy JOhnson’sbook, ‘Turning the Thing Around’, and this 2001 team has met and surpassedwhat Johnson did with his teams, in my eyes, both on and off the field.
