Van Rooijen Places at U.S. Open Swimming Competition

Uniondale, NY – Sophomore swimmer Manon van Rooijen placed third in boththe 100- and 200-meter freestyle at the U.S. Open in Uniondale, New York thisweekend.

Van Rooijen finished the 200-meter free with a time of 1:59.28. Lindsay Benkoof the Trojan Swim Club took first with a time of 1:59.28 and Janelle Atkinsonof the University of Florida was second at 1:59.45.

In the 100-meter, van Rooijen finished at 55.68 while Christina Swindle of theMiami Swimming Club took first (54.70) and Amanda Weir finished second (54.88).

Junior Christine Williams finished 13th in the 100-meter with a time of 56.76.

The Miami women’s swim team finished the meet in fourth place with 76 points.SMU took first (473) with Florida (273) in second and Indiana (130) in third.

The Miami Swimming & Diving team hosts the University of Denver at the NormanWhitten Student Union Pool in Coral Gables on December 14th.
