Women's Swimming & Diving to Compete at SMU
Dallas, Texas – The University of Miami women’s swimming and divingteam travels to Dallas to compete in the eighth annual SMU Women’s Classic Fridayand Saturday.
This year’s classic field includes Auburn, UCLA, Miami, Fla., Pacific, and Rice.The Classic features only the fast, spectacular races — no long distances –and gives swimming and diving fans a preview of the 2002 NCAA Championships, whichbegins March 21 in Austin, Texas.
The competition allows a nine-woman squad (eight swimmers and one diver per team)from each of the six teams for the two evening sessions. There are no preliminaryheats, only consolation and championship finals. The meet will feature two divingevents, the one-meter competition (Nov. 2) and the three-meter competition (Nov.3).
Auburn won last year’s classic with 313 points.
