Team USA Posts 2ND Straight Shutout, 7-0 Over Torrington

TORRINGTON, CONNECTICUT – Kiki Bengochea (RHP, So, Miami), BobZimmermann(RHP, So, SW Missouri State) and Tim Cunningham (LHP, So, Stanford)combinedto throw a three-hit, shutout over the Torrington Twisters as the USABaseball National Team won 7-0 Sunday evening at Fuessenich Park inTorrington, Connecticut. It was Team USA’s second consecutive shutoutvictory, and fourth in a row overall to improve their record to 11-5-1.

In seven innings of work, Bengochea (2-0) allowed just three singles andhasnow tossed 20.2 consecutive scoreless innings to drop his ERA to aminiscule0.36 on the summer. Zimmermann and Cunningham each worked one scorelessinning.

Team USA jumped ahead 1-0 in the third off Torrington starter RobHarrand,when Jeff Baker’s (IF, So, Clemson) single brought home Rickie Weeks(OF, Fr,Southern) from second base.

The Red, White and Blue was able to tack on five more runs in the fourthoffHarrand to take a commanding 6-0 lead. Run-scoring doubles by Baker andMichael Aubrey (OF, Fr, Tulane) were among Team USA’s six hits as theybattedaround in the frame. It was the National Team’s highest single-inningscoringoutburst of the summer so far.

Jeremy Reed (IF, So, Long Beach State) went 3-for-5 with two RBI’s while

Kevin Howard (IF, So, Miami) and Ryan Hubele (IF, So, Texas) each addedapair of hits.
