Team Notes:
The victory over Tennessee gave Miami its 50th win of the season and the 17th all-time. The 50-win season is the fifth in eight seasons under Jim Morris. Additionally, UM has 50 or more wins in five of the last six seasons.
Miami improves to 45-0 this season when leading after six innings and 48-0 when leading after eight innings.
Miami’s seven run second inning vs. Tennessee marked the fifth time this season the Hurricanes have scored seven or more runs in an inning. Miami set a season-high with eight runs in the seventh inning against Clemson in the Super Regional on June 2.
Tennessee starting pitcher Wyatt Allen left the game after 1.2 innings marking the shortest start of his career. In the 2001 post season Miami has knocked out all six opposing pitchers in less than five innings with longest stint lasting 4.2 (Jarrod Schmidt, Clemson – 6-2-01). Miami has knocked 34 pitchers out of the game in less than five innings this season.
UM extended its national-leading stolen base total to 219 with four steals against Tennessee. The Volunteers rank second with 152 stolen bases.
Miami recorded six relief appearances tonight and has 213 relief appearances this season extending its NCAA single-season record. The old NCAA mark was 194 by San Diego State in 1982.
UM’s win over Tennessee extends its current season-long and national-leading win streak to 14 games.
The Hurricanes win over UT give UM a 40-30 mark in CWS games. The 40 CWS wins is fourth-most all-time nationally.
Miami is now 14-5 in 19 CWS opening games.
UM is 35-7 when the starting pitcher earns the decision.
With the win over UT, Miami is 22-10 vs. ranked opponents in 2001.
The win over UT extends Miami’s win streak away from Mark Light Stadium to 13 games. UM is 13-1 away from home, after losing its first road game at Florida Atlantic (11-10) January 26.
The win over UT gives UM a 2001 record of 6-0 vs. the Southeastern Conference (4-0 vs. Florida, 1-0 vs. Arkansas).
UM is now 18-2 on Saturday’s in 2001.
UM is 14-1 wearing its all-white uniforms.
Jim Morris has compiled a career record of 390-119-1 at Miami, 894-363-2 as a D-1 Head Coach and a 1,025-404-2 record a head coach.
The win in Rosenblatt Stadium improves UM’s record to 26-11 in parks also used by minor league teams under Jim Morris. UM is 14-9 at Rosenblatt under Morris.
UM has now won five straight games at Rosenblatt Stadium dating back to the 1999 National Championship where UM won the title in four games. The five game win streak also ties UM’s best at the CWS with a span of five in 1986 and 1985 and the five victories in 1982.
UM’s 50-12 record is the second-best under Jim Morris. His 1998 squad was 51-11 after 62 games.
UM is now 17-5 in TV games this season.
Following the Tennessee game, UM was batting .366 in the postseason and .307 for the 2001 season.
Kevin Mannix is leading the team with a .455 batting average in the postseason, starting all six games. Danny Matienzo has a .433 batting average, Mike Rodriguez (.400), Charlton Jimerson (.393) and Kevin Howard (.391).
Three players have totaled UM’s 11 home runs in the postseason (Danny Matienzo and Kevin Brown with four and Charlton Jimerson with three). The three players also have a combined 44 RBI.
During the current 14-game win streak UM is batting .353. Mike Rodriguez leads the group with a .438 batting average during this span. Kevin Mannix is not far behind with a .435 batting average. Greg Lovelady has a .409 batting average, followed by Danny Matienzo (.396).
Players Notes:
Charlton Jimerson’s lead-off homerun vs. Tennessee was his second of the season. Jimerson had a lead-off homerun at Florida State on April 21. Jimerson is the first player since Danny Diggs (LSU) vs. Alabama (6-7-97) to hit a homerun to lead-off a game at the College World Series.
Mike Rodriguez recorded his 50th and 51st stolen bases of the season. It marks the first time in school-history that UM has had two players steal 50 or more bases in the same season. Javy Rodriguez currently leads the Hurricanes with a school-record 66 stolen bases. The 117 combined stolen bases for Javy and Mike Rodriguez are the most by any tandem in UM history.
Mike Rodriguez is an impressive 51-of-53 in stolen base attempts this season. With his two stolen bases, Charlton Jimerson is 26-of-29 on the season.
Mike Rodriguez singled in the third inning to extend his current hitting streak to 11 games. The streak ties his career best set during the 2000 season. Javy Rodriguez is also on a nine-game hitting streak and Charlton Jimerson with six games.
Mike Rodriguez has now scored a run in 14 sconsecutive games.
In the 2001 postseason Miami has scored 10 or more runs in five of its six games including four straight.
With one more RBI, Javy Rodriguez will be the first player at UM with 60 stolen bases (66) and 60 RBI (59).
Tom Farmer’s victory was the 20th of his career (20-7 overall and 14-2 in 2001).
Kevin Brown now has 46 career home runs. Danny Matienzo now has 21 career home runs. Charlton Jimerson now has 16 career home runs.
Kris Clute tied a career-high with three runs scored vs. Tennessee (3 times overall and twice in 2001).
Mike DiRosa’s three walks tied a career-high (five times overall and twice in 2001).
Kevin Mannix, who reached base six times vs. Tennessee, tied his career best with three walks (3 times overall and twice in 2001). He went 3-for-3 vs. UT.
Danny Matienzo’s four hits was a season-high and six RBI tied a career-high.
Mike Rodriguez’ RBI vs. UT tied a career-high (8 times overall and 5 times in 2001).

Danny Matienzo’s two home runs tied for third all-time in a CWS game. His six RBI, which tied his career-high, tied for fifth all-time.
