UM Women's Track Heads To NCAA Championships

Coral Gables, FL – The University of Miami women’s track and field team will send a school-record five individuals to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, May 30-June 3, in Eugene, Oregon.
Leading the way for Miami will be All-Americans Natalie Watson (Coral Springs) and Kareen Clarke (Lithonic, GA).
Watson, a senior, earned All-America honors with a fourth-place finish in the 800-meters at the NCAA Indoor Championships earlier this season. She won the BIG EAST outdoor 800-meter title on May 6th and currently ranks 11th in the nation in the event.
Clarke, a junior, earned All-America honors in the triple jump at the NCAA Indoor Championships and won the BIG EAST triple jump titles at both the indoor and outdoor conference championships. Clarke currently ranks fourth in the nation in the triple jump.
The Hurricanes will have two jumpers competing in the triple jump. Joining Clarke will be senior Antonnikka Owens (Orlando, FL). Owens, who has the eighth best mark in the nation this year, will be competing in her first NCAA Outdoor Championship.
Sophomores Jamilla Wade (Philadelphia, PA) and Saraque Whittaker (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) have also qualified for their first NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Whittaker, who will compete in the 400-meters, currently ranks 14th in the nation and has set a new UM record in the event in each of her last three races. Wade will participate in the 400-meter hurdles. Wade, the BIG EAST Champion in the 400-hurdles, currently ranks 21st in the nation.
