Stetson Eliminates Bucknell With 7-0 Shutout

CORAL GABLES, FL – Junior Brian Sullivan (6-3) threw a complete game shutout to lead Stetson to a 7-0 victory over Bucknell in game three of the Coral Gables Regional at Mark Light Stadium. The win marked the first shutout in postseason history for Stetson.

The result snapped a nine-game losing streak for Stetson (42-16). The Hatters next face the loser of Saturday afternoon’s Miami-Florida contest in game five on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. Bucknell (31-19), the champion of the Patriot League, is eliminated.

Sullivan allowed four hits and walked three en route to the first complete game of his career. Junior Chris Lackett (6-3) took the loss after allowing six runs, five earned, on ten hits.

Stetson opened the scoring with a run in the first inning and never looked back. Right fielder Jeff Christy led off with a double, then advanced to third on a ground out by center fielder Ian Church. Left fielder Frank Corr then drove in Christy with a single to center.

In the second inning, shortstop Rusty Beale hit a two-run home run, his fourth home run of the season. In the third, third baseman Brian Snyder hit a two-run homer and Beale hit a sacrifice fly to score designated hitter Vinnie Rinaldi and give the Hatters a six-run lead.

On the day, Beale was 3-3 with the home run and three RBI, while Snyder was 2-4 with two RBI.

For Bucknell, junior shortstop Larry Sheetz lead the Bison offensively with two hits.
