UM Women Advance To 4x400 Final

Philadelphia, PA – The University of Miami women’s 4×400-meter relay of junior Jenise Winston (League City, TX), sophomore Jamillah Wade (Philadelphia, PA), sophomore Saraque Whittaker (Ft. Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas) and freshman Kitoya Carter (Miami Northwestern) finished third in its heat with an time of 3:36.75 to qualify for Saturday’s final at the 107th Penn Relays Carnival in Philadelphia, PA.
The Hurricanes’ time provisionally qualifies them for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, May 30-June 3, in Eugene, OR.
Miami’s relay, ranked 11th in the nation, will face some of the country’s best in the final. Seven of the eight qualifiers hold national rankings including No. 1 Texas, No. 2 South Carolina, No. 3 Florida, No. 4 Clemson, No. 12 LSU and No. 21 Seton Hall.
In other action, Jamillah Wade finished 11th in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.73, freshman Jennifer Penrose (Mesa, AR) took 10th in the shot put with a toss of 13.37 meters (43-10.50) and freshman Dore Madere (Dallas, TX) finished 13th in the discus with a throw of 40.74 meters (133-08).
Miami continues competition on Friday with the triple jump and the sprint medley relay. The triple jump will be highlighted by the UM duo of junior Kareen Clarke (Lithonic, GA) and senior Antonnikka Owens (Orlando, FL).
Clarke, a two-time All-American and school-record holder in the event, ranks fourth in the nation while Owens is currently the eighth ranked triple jumper in the country. Both have already provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships.
