UM Golfers Third At Ryder Championships

Miami Lakes, FL – The University of Miami women’s golf team shot a second-round 295 and is in third-place heading into Sunday’s final round of the RYDER/Florida Women’s Collegiate Golf Championships at Don Shula’s Golf Club and Resort in Miami Lakes, FL.

Miami (303-295–598) is only two strokes behind Florida (301-295–596) which fired a second round 295 to hold on to a one stroke advantage over Florida International. Florida International (305-292–597), led by Michelle Simpson, made the biggest move of the day recording a tournament-low round of 292 to jump from fifth to second, only one stroke behind the Gators.

Simpson (Florida International) fired a three-under-par 69 on Saturday to take sole possession of the individual championship with a two-round total of 141. Louise Wright (Florida State) also recorded a second-round 69 to move into second individually with a two-round total of 142.

Sophomore Dominique Gagnon (Dominican Republic) once again led Miami with a second-round 74. Gagnon (73-74–147) is six strokes back and in fourth-place heading into Sunday’s final round. Freshman Katie Buscemi (Plantation, FL) continued her fine play for the Hurricanes recording a 73 on Saturday to move into a tie for seventh (75-73–148).

Competition concludes on Sunday beginning at 7:30 a.m. Admission is free.
