Hurricanes Open Spring Practice
March 20, 2001
CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – The Larry Coker Era as Miami’s new head football coach officially began Tuesday afternoon as the Miami Hurricanes practiced for two hours in shorts and pads before an enthusiastic crowd at the Greentree Practice Field.
“It was great to get on the field and get to work,” Coker said at the conclusion of the workout. “Philosophically, we haven’t made many changes, if any. Some terminology on offense and defense has changed, but not enough for anyone to notice from a distance. One of the main things this Spring is for the players to develop confidence in me as a head coach and in our staff. And that will happen only by working together. We’re off to a good start.”
The Hurricanes focused on fundamentals throughout as the players worked for the first time under Miami’s revamped coaching staff. Two players were absent from the workout – junior linebacker Howard Clark and redshirt freshman wide receiver Anthony Johnson. Coker said both players missed practice because of undisclosed personal issues.
Miami returns to the practice field Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at the Greentree Practice Field. The Hurricanes take Thursday off before resuming practice Friday at 3:30 p.m. and Saturday morning at 11:30 a.m.. All workouts this week are open to the public.
