No. 20 Men's Tennis Downs No. 19 Baylor, 5-2

CORAL GABLES, Fla.–The No. 20-ranked University of Miami men’s tennis team avenged last season’s shutout by No. 19 Baylor with a 5-2 win over the Bears Friday night at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

Miami improves to 10-2 overall while Baylor drops to 6-3 on the season.

The Hurricanes clinched the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.

Michael Lang teamed up with Jose Lieberman at No. 2 doubles downing Csongor Bibza and Cory Ross 8-1. Peter Hoffman and Tomas Smid, who are ranked No. 35 in the nation in doubles, downed No. 28 Mark Williams and Reiner Neurohr 8-5 at the No. 1 spot.

No. 62 Lang defeated Bibza 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles to put Miami up 2-0. Hoffman and Johan Lindqvist won at the No. 3 and No. 4 spots to clinch the win for Miami. Hoffman defeated Zoltan Papp 6-4, 7-6 and Lindqvist edged Neurohr 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.

Tomas Smid beat Mark Williams in three sets 6-3, 6-7, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.
