Martin Wins 55-Meters At Florida Invitational

Gainesville, FL – University of Miami junior Gus Martin (Miami Northwestern) finished first in the 55-meter hurdles to highlight competition at the Florida Invitational in Gainesville, FL.

Martin won the event with a time of 7:38 and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, March 9-10, in Fayetteville, AR.

On the women’s side, sophomore Gina Harris (Philadelphia, PA) led strong Hurricane performances in the long jump and triple jump.

Harris finished third in the long jump with a leap of 5.71 meters (18-09.00) and recorded a seventh-place finish in the triple jump with a jump of 11.94 meters (39-02.25). Also recording top-10 finishes in both events was senior Antonnikka Owens (Orlando, FL) who finished fourth in the long jump (5.69 meters/18-08.00) and sixth in the triple jump (11.97 meters/39-03.25).

All-American Kareen Clark (Lithonic, GA) was Miami’s top finisher in the triple jump with a leap of 12.24 meters (40-02.00). Last season Clark ranked third in the nation in the event.

Other top finishes for Miami included sophomore Patricia Pearson who took third in the 800-meters (2:12.93), junior Jenise Winston who finished fifth in the 400-meters (56.96) and All-American Wyllesheia Myrick who took fourth in the 55-meters (6.98).
