Jan. 3, 2001

Coral Gables, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) — – The University of Miami Hurricanes are among the preseason favorites to win the 2001 College World Series, according to Baseball America’s annual preseason poll. The Hurricanes are ranked fourth in the poll behind Georgia Tech, Southern California and Louisiana State.

This is the second preseason poll to tab the Hurricanes among the top 10 along with Collegiate Baseball newspaper’s No. 9 ranking.

The Hurricanes, under the direction of Head Coach Jim Morris, return seven position starters and seven pitchers from last season’s team that advanced to a third game of the Super Regionals and 22 letterwinners overall. In 2000, UM recorded a 41-19-1 overall record and claimed the NCAA Coral Gables Regional championship with a three-game sweep of Wagner, Florida International and Florida Atlantic.

The Hurricanes, who finished as high as 13th in the 2000 final college baseball polls, begin the 2001 season with Florida Atlantic on January 25th at Mark Light Stadium. Call 1-800 GO CANES or 305-284-CANES in Miami-Dade County for further ticket information.
