MIAMI (AP)James Jones scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds asMiami defeated Tennessee Martin 70-54 Friday.

The Hurricanes (8-3) never trailed in their final non-conference game beforebeginning Big East play at Pittsburgh Jan. 3.

“The thing we can gain from playing these (non-conference) teams is thatthey don’t back down,” Jones said. “They might not have the talent but theywill play you tough.”

Joe Gordon made two three-pointers during a 12-0 Miami run that gave theHurricanes a 21-6 lead which proved too much for the Skyhawks (4-4) toovercome. Miami led 42-27 at the half.

Jones hit consecutive three pointers to give Miami its biggest lead, 64-43,with 8:50 remaining in the game. He made all three of his three-point attempts.

“Basically, all I did was shoot the ball and it was going in,” Jones said.

Miami’s Rodrigue Djahue and Darius Rice joined Jones in double figures,scoring 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Hayden Prescott led Tennessee Martin with 21 points and was the only Skyhawkto score in double figures.
