Dec. 1, 2000
Coral Gables, FL – Head women’s golf coach Lela Cannon announces the signing of Tina Miller (Miami, FL) to a national letter of intent to attend the University of Miami next fall. Miller selected Miami over a number of schools including Florida and South Florida.
Miller, a four-time first team All-Dade selection, has competed the last four seasons for the boy’s team at Archbishop Curley Notre Dame High School. This season she ranked fifth in Dade County with a 37.67 scoring average.
“I am very excited to be heading to the University of Miami next fall,” says Miller. “I was very impressed with Coach (Lela) Cannon and the team’s family atmosphere. Academically the University stands out as one of the best in the country and the campus is beautiful. Once I visited the school I knew it was where I wanted to spend the next four years.”
A two-time team MVP and 2000 team captain, Miller won her second straight district championship and finished 14th at the 2000 State Championships. She currently ranks 69th in the nation in the Golfweek/Saragin performance index.
Miller is a seven-time PGA Sectional Junior Champion, including six consecutive victories from 1990-95, and represented the United States at the 1995 World Cup held in Japan. This summer Miller finished in a tie for 17th at the United States Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship.
Miller, who plans on majoring in business, is also a standout in the classroom having earned Dean’s List honors four consecutive years at Archbishop Curley Notre Dame.
