Sept. 24, 2000
CORAL GABLES, Fla.–Playing two matches in three days on the road got the best of the University of Miami women’s soccer team, as they fell 6-1 to #25 Connecticut in BIG EAST action Sunday afternoon in Storrs, Conn.
Miami falls to 6-4 overall and 2-2 in conference action, while the Huskies improve to 5-3-1 overall and 2-0 in the BIG EAST.
Dee Bass (Coral Springs, Fla.) scored the first goal of the match on the first shot taken by Miami at 5:20. Jenny Sanchez (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) assisted Bass with the goal.
Three days of rest helped the Huskies, as they went on to score five consecutive goals in the first half, including three goals by Mary-Beth Bowie.
The Hurricanes were unable to score again in the first-half, taking a 5-1 deficit into the locker room at halftime.
Despite the hard work of the UM defense, UConn scored again in the second half on a direct kick right in front of the box at 76:55. The goal was scored by Jen Carlson who booted it right above the hands of UM goalkeeper Elizabeth Swinson (Boca Raton, Fla.).
Miami had a total of five shots in the game, while UConn had 16.
The Hurricanes return to action in Coral Gables playing host to Portland Friday at 7 p.m. at Cobb Stadium. Admission is free.
