Sept. 14, 2000
CORAL GABLES, Fla.– The University of Miami men’s tennis team begins fall competition Friday, Sept. 15, at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Georgia as they participate in the ON THE BORDER Challenge hosted by Georgia.
The three-day event features Clemson, Georgia, Mississippi State and Texas. Three of the five teams participating finished in the top five of their respective regions last season. Miami finished seventh in Region III.
The weekend competition squares two of the five teams against each other at a time in a round robin format, but no team scoring will be kept, only individual results.
Miami begins play on Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. against Georgia on the Henry Feild Stadium courts.
UM returns six players from a team that finished 19-5 overall and won the BIG EAST Championship title last season. UM finished out the 2000 season ranked No. 21 in the nation.
Michael Lang (Sarasota, Fla.) returns for his senior season after wrapping up last season with a record of 22-5 at No. 4 singles, while Johan Lindqvist (Kil, Sweden) also returns for his senior season after going 22-8 at No. 3 singles.
