Miami Falls To FIU In Overtime

CORAL GABLES, Fla.-The University of Miami women’s soccer team fell 2-1 to Florida International in overtime Tuesday night at University Park.
UM drops to 4-2 on the season, while FIU improves to 3-1. The all-time series is now tied at two wins apiece.
Laura West (Allen, Texas) scored the lone UM goal on an assist from teammate Cayrn Blood (Red Bank, NJ) at 52:55. UM led 1-0 until Sasja Odenyo scored at 72:06 to tie the match one all.
The team battled it out for the remainder of regulation, but both teams remained scoreless. Odenyo scored the game-winning goal for FIU seven minutes into overtime at 97:16.
This was the first overtime for the Hurricanes this season, the loss ended UM’s four-match win streak.
FIU out shot the Hurricanes 23 to 13 in the winning effort. UM goalkeeper Elizabeth Swinson made nine saves on the night.
West continues to lead the UM offense with six goals scored this season and 13 points.
The Hurricanes return to Cobb Stadium Friday night playing host to Stetson at 7 p.m. Admission is free.
