No. 4 Canes Take On No. 15 Washington In Key Matchup

MIAMI (AP) — There are no long winning streaks involved, but the stakes are just ashighwhen No. 4 Miami travels to Washington to face the 15th-ranked Huskies.
In the two schools’ only previous matchup, Washington won 38-20 at theOrange Bowl in 1994 to end Miami’s NCAA-record 58-game winning streak.
Both teams opened the season in impressive fashion as Washington beat Idaho 44-20 Saturday in its season opener, while Miami defeated I-AA McNeese State 61-14 Thursday in its first game.
“They don’t look to have any weaknesses,” Washington coach RickNeuheisel said. “It is reminiscent of the Miami teams of old that competed fornationalchampionships and certainly are in the hunt again this year. Hopefully, wewillplay well enough to show the country that we deserve to be there.”
Miami is led by one of the top receivers in the nation, Santana Moss.
Moss, a senior flanker who has been timed in 4.3 seconds in the 40-yarddashscored twice and amassed 204 all-purpose yards Thursday.
“Moss and company are loaded with not only talent but great speed,”Neuheisel said. “While I think we have players who can run with them, I’mnotsure (from) an overall standpoint if we’re there yet. Certainly, we’re goingtohave to try to keep up with these guys.”
Ken Dorsey, the Hurricanes’ starting quarterback continues to impress.
Dorsey threw three touchdown passes, completing 17 of 29 attempts for248yards en route to winning for the fourth time in as many starts.
In his four starts, Dorsey is 81-for-120 for 966 yards with 12 TDpasses andjust one interception. Those outings, though, came against Rutgers,Syracuse,Temple and the overmatched Cowboys.
Washington boasts one of the most exciting quarterbacks in the nationinMarques Tuiasosopo. In Washington’s opener, Tuiasosopo accounted for 233passing yards and 80 rushing yards.
The Huskies’ inexperienced receiving corps, which was supposed to betheteam’s weak point, caught 17 passes for 325 yards in the game. They were ledbyTodd Elstrom, who had 104 yards receiving.
The teams finished the 1991 season as co-National Champions.
