Hurricanes' Newcomers Begin Practice

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – Practices for the University of Miami’s newest football players begin Monday morning at the Greentree Practice Field on the UM campus. Morning practice begins at 9:20 a.m. with an afternoon session slated to start at 3:30 p.m. Seventeen newcomer signees officially became members of the Hurricanes’ football program Saturday morning when they underwent physical testing, were issued equipment and checked in to their dormitory rooms on campus.

The Hurricanes are ranked fifth by the Associated Press in preseason rankings released Saturday afternoon. UM embarks on one of the nation’s toughest schedules this season as the Hurricanes take on three teams ranked in the AP preseason Top 25: No. 2 Florida State (Oct. 7), No. 11 Virginia Tech (Nov. 4) and No. 13 Washington (Sept. 9). The meeting between the Canes and Florida State is the only game slated between two of the nation’s top five teams at this point.

Aug. 7 Freshmen two-a-day practices (9:20 a.m. & 3:30 p.m.)

Aug. 8 Varsity returnees report, Freshmen practice at 9:20 a.m.

Aug. 9 Hurricanes Media Day (news media only)

Two-A-Days (Aug. 10-22)

Aug. 10-15 8:30 a.m. & 3:30 p.m. – open to the public

Aug. 16-22 8:30 a.m. & 3:30 p.m.

Aug. 23 Off Day (classes begin)

Aug. 24-30 Regular practice

Aug. 31 Miami vs. McNeese State (7:30 p.m.)
