Clarke To Compete In Triple Jump

June 2, 2000

Durham, NC – University of Miami All-American Kareen Clarke (Lithonic, GA) will compete in the triple jump Saturday at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Durham, NC.

Clarke, the third-ranked triple jumper in the nation, earned All-America honors with her fifth-place finish in the triple jump at this season’s NCAA Indoor Championships.

Clarke will attempt to become the first jumper in UM history to earn All-America honors both indoors and outdoors in the same season and extend Miami’s streak of consecutive seasons with at least one outdoor All-American to nine. The Hurricanes have had a total of 17 outdoor All-Americans since 1992 including four NCAA National Champions.

In Friday’s 200-meter semifinals junior Wyllesheia Myrick (Miami Northwestern) finished fifth in her semifinal heat with a time of 23.41 to barely miss advancing to Saturday’s final. Despite running the eighth best time of the semifinals Myrick does not advance do to the fact that only the top four finishers from each heat move on to the eight runner final.

CBS will replay the NCAA Championships this Sunday, June 4 from 1-3 p.m.
