Men's and Women's Crew Take On Top Competition
April 14, 2000
Coral Gables, FL – The University of Miami men’s and women’s crews split up this weekend to take on some of the nation’s top collegiate rowing programs at two separate events on Saturday, April 15.
The UM women travel to Princeton, NJ to take on the host Princeton, Radcliffe and Cornell in a match race on the Tiger’s home course on Lake Carnegie. The Hurricanes feature their varsity eight, which began the season with a No. 19 national ranking. The varsity eight will have its toughest challenge to date as it takes on Princeton’s sixth-ranked eight, as well as No. 9 Radcliffe and Cornell, which is receiving votes in the latest USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Poll. Miami fell out of the poll after recording the fastest time at the Florida Intercollegiate Rowing Association Regatta, but was moved to third due to an in-race penalty.
The UM men travel to the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Regatta, commonly referred to as the South Region Championships on Melton Lake in Oak Ridge, TN. Last year, the UM men varsity four highlighted the Hurricane finishes by claiming the Bronze Medal, finishing behind Rollins College and Clemson.
Both crews return to action on April 30 for the Georgetown Invitational Rowing Regatta for BIG EAST Schools on the Potomac River in Washington D.C.
